Shorlfilter is very easy to use. Just pipe text into it, and it comes out with
shortened links.

The main command line option is -l, which specifies the minimum length a link
must be before it is shortened. The default is 45 characters.

Shorlfilter is quite useful for email where the mail client on the other end
has a habit of chopping up long or multiline URLs, making them difficult to
follow. It is also more aesthetically pleasing to short links without dozens
of ampersands and semicolons.

If you use mutt, and you want *all* outgoing email to be processed through
shorlfilter, add the following linke to your .muttrc file:

macro compose y <filter-entry>'shorlfilter'\ry<send-message>'

If you want to associate a key in vim with shorlfilter, to shorten all URLs
in the currently active file, add the following to your .vimrc file (in this
example, F5 is mapped to shorlfilter):

noremap <F5> :%!shorlfilter<CR>
