V1.0
Initial release.
v1.01
Fixed bug in skyview.geometry.Deedger (now skyview.geometry.deedger.BoundaryAverage)
where image 0 is not renormalized.
Added and reorganized de-edging classes.
There are now four classes for deedging.
skyview.geometry.Deedger simply delegates to an object of a default class (currently
BoundaryMedian).
skyview.geometry.deedger.BoundaryAverage is what the old de-edger used to be.
skyview.geometry.deedger.BoundaryMedian minimizes the change in median values across a boundary.
skyview.geometry.deedger.ImageMedian normalizes the medians of the constituent images and
is very similar to the IDL version of SkyView.
V1.9
Added functionality for creating quicklook images (JPEG, GIF, BMP, TIFF)
using included ImageJ library (see http://rsb.info.nih.gov/ij).
This includes quicklook image creation, scaling, min,max and color tables.
The skyview.ij.IJProcessor class handles the interface to the ImageJ functionality.
Additional work is expected here.
Added skyview.executive.SettingsUpdater interface and implemented this for
in the BatchCompatibility and IJProcessor classes. Adding the SettingsUpdaters Setting.
This defines classes that want to see and perhaps modify the settings before
processing begins.
Changed Settings.getArray to return a 0-length array of strings rather than a null
when there is no setting for the requested key.
Changed PostProcessing to allow for named types of postprocessors. Otherwise
when the IJProcessor added itself to the postprocessor list then a user could
not override that in the Survey settings. Now the deedger (and potentially
other types of postprocessors) can be handled independently. I suppose the list
of postprocessor types could be a Setting too, but for the moment it is
hardwired into Imager. Users should specify deedger=class rather than postprocess=class
when requesting a deedger, although in most cases where graphics output is not
requested there the later would also work.
Added source code to JAR file.
V2.0
Added catalog querying using VO cone search and catalog
handling settings: Catalog, CatalogRadius, CatalogIDs,
CatalogFields, CatalogFile, CatalogFilter. New classes
skyview.vo.ConeQuerier, skyview.vo.CatalogProcessor,
skyview.vo.CatalogPostProcessor.
Added gridding and gridding settings: Grid, GridLabels.
New class skyview.data.Gridder. Gridding implies graphics.
Added getKeys and processFile methods to Settings.
Added Setting "Settings" to enable settings to be read from a file.
Imager now records the settings used in the FITS header.
Imager now exits explicitly when done. Sometimes it seemed
to hang when there were multiple threads from catalog
queries even though the threads apparently terminated normally.
Several getter methods were added to WCS to get the individual
elements of the transformation. Gridder needed to find
the Coordinate system used.
Added StrictGeometry setting and updated RecursiveImageFinder (and Imager)
to use it to find the best image for each pixel individually.
Updated ImageJ routine ImageProcessor to fully support AWT headless processing
using BufferedImage's. Updated skyview.ij.IJProcessor to
allow it to use Java graphics when desired but easily revert
to ImageJ when done.
Added 'ImageJ' setting to start an ImageJ application with
the generated images.
When graphics are requested ensures that either ImageJ or Quicklook
is specified and if neither is, then sets Quicklook=jpg.
Changed DSS surveys. The DSS used to be a combination of red
amd blue data depending on the declination. It is now the DSS1R survey, an
all sky survey in the red. The DSS1B and DSS2IR
surveys were also added. This was prompted by changes in the URLs supported at
ST ScI.
Updated BatchCompatiblity class to tranlate GRIDDD and CATLOG arguments.
Added list of Catalog names to be translated since this application
uses the short names not the longer catalog titles used in the old
SkyView system.
v2.00a
Fixed SDSSZ Survey definition file (it was pointing to the SDSSG band)
v2.00b
Changed reference to keyword "gui" to "imagej" when deciding
whether to exit when done.
--
Changed ij.plugin.JpegWriter to allow - to be used to indicate
using STDOUT for the output stream.
Changed skyview.request.SourceCoordinates to call HEASARC name resolver
more efficiently (adding NoCache parameter which is incorrectly named).
Added NoExit setting to disable System.exit when we don't want it.
Added CopyWCS setting to allow users to duplicate an existing WCS.
Fixed WCS.checkDSS so that SkyView images derived from the DSS aren't
assumed to use a DSS output frame. [This probably needs some work
for generating the FITS representation of the WCS when it really
is a DSS or NEAT projection.]
Added some more error output to UserSurvey.
Added quicklook=object to allow users to use the ImageJ images
generated in Java programs after completion of the SkyView
portions of the code.
Added PNG support
Moved PNG_Writer to ij/plugin
Added PNG's to IJProcessor
Changed survey/DSSImage to allow tiles to be URLs as well as files.
Changed survey descriptions for SDSS and DSS2 surveys to
create double images by default (like all other surveys). Users
can put "FLOAT" in their settings file if they wish to get
FLOAT images by default.
Updated the nom.tam classes to use the latest versions. The
JAR used very old versions of these classes. This doesn't
affect SkyView itself.
Change FitsImage to allow access to the FITS header.
Asked for larger region in SIAPGenerator to make sure all
useful images are available.
Added some new array fields to use arrays in computations rather
than ArrayLists which substantially speeds up operations.
Added three new ImageFinders:
BorderImageFinder looks not only at the corner pixels in the
recursive box strategy, but also at the edges. This should obviate
the need to use StrictGeometry. This will likely become the
standard image finder. It also uses a better algorithm for deciding
to keep candidate images as it goes to finer and finer boxes.
ScaledBorderFinder uses the distance from the edge scaled by the
total size of the image rather than the unscaled distance as the
criterion for best pixel.
MaxExpImageFinder looks for the image containing the pixel,
and having non-NaN flux, that has the maximum exposure. It is unclear
if this will work properly at the edges when a high-order resampler
is used. [Even if we restrict ourselves a few pixels from the
nominal edge, it would be very costly to check that there are no
NaN's in the vicinity.]
Updated the SDSS surveys to DR5.
Fixed the default scale of the Ha survey.
Fixed a roundoff error problem with the Zea projection which
made requests around 0,0 fail.
Put into Subversion and replaced CSH build scripts with Ant.
Moved code to use subversion repository and Ant compile scripts.
--- Changes to FITS library ---
Major transformations of all test code to use Junit and automated
checking rather than comparing print outs.
nom.tam.fits.utilities package created and FitsCopy and FitsReader
classes were moved there.
A few test classes, e.g., BigImage and RMFUpdTest were deleted and
their functions subsumed into the other tests.
Test routines now considered standard part of library.
Note that the test routines use Annotations and may not compile
with versions of Java prior to 1.5.
New features:
ArrayFuncs: Added arrayEquals() methods which allow comparison
of arrays of arbitrary dimensionality. Used extensively
in the updated test classes.
Bug fixes:
AsciiTable: Setting a row, column or element de-nulls any
elements that were set to null.
Fixed offsets in columns after column was deleted.
FitsUtil: Fixed bug in maxLength which looked for nulls in
the array pointer rather than the individual strings.
Added check for nulls in stringsToByteArray
HeaderCard: Truncated String in one argument constructor to
a maximum of 80 characters.
BinaryTable: Fixed handling of columns with 0 width (e.g.,
0 length strings, or arrays of 0 length.
ColumnTable: Fixed handling of columns with 0 width.
V2.1 Major changes to support CGI operations, contours and smoothing
Added IRIS, nH, EUVE and ROSAT WFC surveys
Updated survey documents to fix documentation.
Added Old DSS survey. Note the this replaces
the DSS1R survey in the previous version.
DSS1R is still available but DSS and 'Digitized Sky Survey'
now refer to the original release of the DSS which contains
data in different colors in different regions of the sky.
Added CGIInitiator class to transform CGI parameters to Settings.
It uses the HTMLWriter and RGBWriter settings to find postprocessors
that can write the HTML to be associated with images. Defaults
added to skyview.settings.
Modified Settings to allow stack of settings and push and pop operations.
Major modifications of Imager
- Split up processSurvey into discrete steps
- Allow caching of partially processed images for re-use in contours
- Interface to CGIInitiator
Added HTMLWriter and RBGWriter postprocessors. These create HTML output
based upon the surveys created. They use template files included in the
JAR in the CGIFiles area which has been added to the JAR. These processors
using the HeaderTemplate, SurveyTemplate and FooterTemplate settings to
find the template files. The default skyview.settings has been updated
to supply these.
Added XMLSurveyDescription. This creates a description of one or all of the
surveys described for which we have an XML description in HTML. This uses
an XSLT file included in the CGIFiles area.
BoxSmoother added. This does a simple box-car smoothing of an image. The
Smooth setting is used to apply this to images. It is also used to smooth
quicklook outputs using ContourSmooth and RGBSmooth settings. BoxSmoother
added to skyview.settings as a SettingsUpdater.
Contourer added. This provides contour maps of an image. It is invoked
by the Contour setting. Since a contour image need not be one of the image
surveys, this requires substantial rethinking of how to do processing if we
don't want to have to redo processing -- especially since we can do different
processing on the contour image than on the same image returned as a regular
survey. E.g.,
survey=xx,yy contour=yy contoursmooth=10
smooths yy when it is being contoured, but not when it is being displayed
as the underlying image.
Added RGBSmooth Setting which allows for differential smoothing of constituents
of an RGB image -- but does not affect the FITS outputs.
Updated IJProcessor to handle new Contour and RGB capabilities.
The Mosaicker class was changed so that it did not modify the 'match' input
when mosaicking an image.
Minor changes were made to the ImageFactories so that all prefixes are
handled in the factories. Previously the FilePrefix was being prepended
before the factory method was called and the spell prefix prepended inside
the factory.
Updates to XMLSurvey to read more of descriptor files to support
HTMLWriters.
Updates to all processors to handle (normally by just returning)
null outputs. This is because the HTMLWriter needs to handle such
errors by writing an HTML warning for the user.
Changed default cache to use directory "./skycache/" rather than
the current directory.
Updated ImageJ to version V1.38K.
Major changes to SourceCoordinates to limit functionality to
parsing/resolving target/position inputs.
Moved most processing classes from skyview.geometry to skyview.process.
The idea is that skyview.geometry should be independent of any
SkyView settings.
Added Offset methods
Added preliminary RASS survey descriptions
Changed FITS writing so that curl method is no longer called. Should
substantially reduce memory footprint for very large images.
---
V2.2
Added SIA package to allow building an SIA service on top of SkyView
Added LocalURL setting to translate URLs to local files where necessary.
Modified CachingImageFactory.
Modified CachingImageFactory to try to download if it has trouble
reading a cached file.
Made methods for parsing Settings files public, so that CGIInitiator
can have CGI specific settings files.
Several updates to CGIInitator to use OutputRoot setting and to
exit when done (since otherwise the process seems to hang).
OutputRoot specifies the root of the output file when a
specific name is not given
Ensured that HTMLWriter writes HTTP header.
Added SaveBySurvey setting so that cache will be subdivided
into directories organized by the survey name.
Lots of changes for release.
Added FindRetry setting for Car/Ait tiled surveys, but a better
solution is needed to handle areas near discontinuities. Find/Retry
should be specified for any tiled survey which has data near
a discontinuity in the coordinate system.
Modified ij.process.ImageProcessor to handle rotated strings
internally rather than patching them in in skyview.ij.IJProcessor.
New methods addPlotString(), clearPlotStrings(), and plotStrings().
Added addColor() method to ImageProcessor to allow users to add
a color to the LUT if it isn't already there.
Modified skyview.ij.IJProcessor in response to changes in ImageProcessor.
Updated XMLSurveyDescription to allow header and trailer files
V2.3
Added skyview.executive.Batch to run a series of requests. (Beta)
Added skyview.process.BackupMosaicker (using settings BackupSurvey)
to allow one survey to fill in gaps in another. Probably need
to be able to scale (in intensity) backup surveys independently. (Beta)
Made CGIInitiator explicitly add IJProcessor before HTMLWriter.
This means that quicklook images are generated before HTML that
links to them so that HTML can be sent to user immediately.
Fixed Mosiacker to ignore DepthSampler if input data was scalar.
Change IJProcessor to scale Log/Sqrt somewhat differently.
Fixed Gridder to handle RA labels/intervals correctly.
Re-enabled PlotFontSize settings which was forgotten when
we string handling to ImageJ.
Have DSS2 surveys use DSS plate solution rather than local.
Add new constructor in FloatProcess (skymap.org)
Add new LUTs (skymap.org)
Change Imager to handle spaces in pixel specification better
Split reuseMatch from loadMatch to fix errors when processing
multiple surveys.
#####
v2.4, v2.5
TEA and TOAST support
#####
December 2009
Tried to solve problem of clip resampling going over edges with
new Straddle classes and associated code in Clip sampler.
This has been tested only for the Aitoff and Car projection.
Needs to be done for the CSC projection.
Added offset +- functionality to drawing capabilities. That allows
us to draw offset from any of the corners of the image (as well as
the default which is the center).
Added annotation keyword. This is basically a duplicate of the
drawfile keyword, with the idea being that system required drawing using
annotation but user specified drawing uses drawfile.
Added Mellinger surveys.
Added initial Fermi surveys.
Allow multiple values in Scaler so that different surveys can be scaled differently.
E.g., Scaler=Log,Log,Linear scales the first and second surveys using
Log scaling and the last survey using Linear scaling. If there are more
surveys than scale entries, then selected scale continues rotating through
the user supplied values.
Changed FitsImage to ensure proper scaling of byte images. These were
being treated as signed and should be unsigned.
Added the MaxRequestSize and LargeImage settings. If the request is
larger than MaxRequestSize, the condidate images are given in LargeImage.
This required some changes in how we parse the <Images> area of the XML
since we sometimes want to read it but ignore the <Image> entries.
