Quick start guide
-----------------
To run from a clone of the source:
perl -Ilib sysv-rc-conf.pl
Why? (by the original author)
-----------------------------
I made this program because other "terminal gui" run-level configuration
programs I used lacked features I wanted. I decided not to patch the others
because I wanted something quite a bit different from the current offerings,
though I used quite a few ideas from those programs. Plus it seemed like they
were tied to the system they were being used on. (Like rcconf is a front-end
to debian's update-rc.d).
sysv-rc-conf's goal is to be a replacement for tools such as ntsysv (popular on
RedHat systems) or rcconf (from Debian).
sysv-rc-conf should be compatible with any system that uses SysV style rc*.d
symlinks. I've really only tested it on Linux systems though, so any feedback
would be appreciated.
sysv-rc-conf is released under the GNU GPL. See COPYING for more information.

New maintainer for 21st anniversary
-----------------------------------
The last activity for the original sysv-rc-conf project was a CVS commit in
July 2006 following the 0.99 release on 11 May 2005.
I have taken over maintenance of this project as of 17 May 2025 and it is now
hosted with CVS history imported from the original project at:
https://gitlab.com/init-tools/sysv-rc-conf
See the ChangeLog for a list of enhancements and fixes made since this project
was adopted.
New releases will use a three-part semantic version, beginning with version
1.0.0. Releases will be in the form of git tags signed by me or any other
co-maintainers that might arise. There will not be official tarballs but feel
free to use the automatically generated archives from the tags published on the
git forge.
Many thanks to Joe Oppegaard for writing this software and various Debian
contributors and users who have kept this useful utility alive as a Debian
package over the last twenty years!
