<H3>The Output Device</H3>
The Output device provides a general means for writing floating point
samples to output files. The samples are initially un-normalised but the
resulting data files may be normalised and converted into WAV format sound
files with a separate program <CODE>tao2wav</CODE>. The minor inconvenience of
having to convert <B>Tao</B> output files into a more usable format as a separate
post-processing stage is imposed for good reason. Firstly it does have the
advantage that the user doesn't have to worry about sound samples going out
of range. Also, with a model which is heavily based around floating point
calculations and physically vibrating entities it is impossible to know the
amplitude of the vibrations in advance.
<P>The present version of <B>Tao</B> only allows one and two channel output files but
this will be changed in future releases to allow for arbitrary numbers of
channels.
