<h2 class="section"> 3.7 Parameters </h2>

<p>It is possible to specify some Fortran variables as specific model parameters.
Model parameters
may be used in sensitivity studies (see <a href="Sensitivities.html#Sensitivity-to-a-parameter">Sensitivity to a parameter</a>)
and in the adjoint model (see <a href="Adjoint-model-and-optimisation.html#Sensitivity-of-cost-function-to-parameters">Sensitivity of cost function to parameters</a>).
Nothing special is done with parameters with Kalman filtering.
</p>

<a name="index-Free_005fparameter"></a>

<p>The parameters are fortran variables that should be initialized somewhere
in &lsquo;<tt>zinit</tt>&rsquo;. For a variable to be considered as a parameter, it should
be passed as an
argument to the <code>Free_parameters</code> macro. For example if
<code>apar</code> and <code>cpar</code> (from the predator example) are to be considered
as parameters, <code>Free_parameters</code> should be called with:
</p>
<table><tr><td>&nbsp;</td><td><pre class="example">Free_parameter: apar, cpar;
</pre></td></tr></table>

<p>When used with grid1d models (see <a href="1D-gridded-model.html#g_t1D-gridded-model">Describing 1D gridded model</a>) the <code>inode</code> number may appear in
parenthesis:
</p>
<table><tr><td>&nbsp;</td><td><pre class="example">Free_parameter: rd(1), rk(2);
</pre></td></tr></table>

<hr size="2">
<table cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" border="0">
