 The <tt>\kill</tt> command allows you to set tab stops without producing  text.
 It works just like the 
 <a href="ltx-181.html"><tt>\\</tt></a> except 
 that it throws away the current  line
 instead  of producing  output for it.  The effect  of any 
 <a href="ltx-187.html"><tt>\=</tt></a>,
 <a href="ltx-190.html"><tt>\+</tt></a> or 
 <a href="ltx-182.html"><tt>\-</tt></a>  
 commands in that line remain in effect.
