tipa for DEBIAN
----------------------
TIPA is a system for processing IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet)
symbols in LaTeX written by Fukui Rei. TIPA stands for wither TeX IPA
or Tokyo IPA. Its primary distribution site is
ftp://tooyoo.L.u-tokyo.ac.jp/pub/TeX/tipa. This Debian package was put
together by Rafael Laboissiere.
TIPA is fully documented in file /usr/doc/tipa/tipaman.dvi.gz, which is
a comprehensive manual of TIPA with a detailed list of all the TIPA
phonetic symbols. The documentation for the optional package
vowel.sty (for drawing vowel diagrams) is found in file
/usr/doc/tipa/vowel.dvi.gz
The original source has version number beta0624. It was changed to
19960624 to fit the requirements of the Debian packaging system.
Some bugs were fixed in the source distribution. The upstream author
had already agreed that they are really bugs, but have no time to fix
them. They are:
* Changed \usepackage to \RequirePackage in tipa.sty to increase
compatibility with LaTeX2e.
* Font encoding files (T3*.{fd|def}) had their file names changed to
lowercase. The directives `\ProvidesFile' present in those files
were changed accordingly. This is necessary to avoid compatibility
problems with version 12/1996 (or newer) of LaTeX2e.
* Misspellings in the file /usr/doc/tipa/examples.tex were corrected
(`\corner' and `\scn' should read `\textcorner' and `\textscn',
respectively).
* `\tbs rhoticity' was changed to `\tbs textrhoticity' in
documentation file (tipaman2.tex).
