 README.Troubleshooting for TkCDLayout

 David Faure, David.Faure@insa-lyon.fr, faure@kde.org, 1998

Last revision date : Mon Aug 23, 1998

0 - Introduction

This file covers only TroubleShooting. The commonly asked questions about
TkCdLayout are located in the 'README' file.
Any issue not raised in one of those two files should be addressed to faure@kde.org

1 - Why do I get the error "exec: tixwish4.1.8.0: not found" ?

To use TkCDLayout, you need tixwish 4.1.8.0, which is part of the tix package,
a Tcl/Tk add-on. Find either tix-4.1.0.5-12.i386.rpm or tcltk-8.0.tgz
Alternatively, you can use the perl script directly, after editing a copy of
config.sample, supplied. See the "[Text-based]" section in README.

2 - Why do I get an error in my terminal when I press "Show Layout" ?

In order to use TkCDLayout, you must have, on your system :
* latex, the text formatting program (package 'tetex')
* dvips, in order to transform the dvi file, output of latex, to a ps file
* a postscript visualizer, such as ghostview ('gv') to see the result, and
    eventually print it.

If you have everything and it still doesn't work, check that latex works
on your system, by running latex on any latex file. See also paragraph below.
There could also be some bugs (special characters mistaken by LaTeX...).
Thanks for reporting.

3 - Does the latex file really file the package 't1enc' ? I don't have it !

You only need this package if you want to use 8-bit chars (such as accents)
in your title/subtitle. Otherwise, you can remove the line \usepackage{t1enc}
from the perl script.
All other packages used by the generated latex file are *required*.

4 - Why is there a problem with the paper size ?

TkCdLayout has currently been tested only in France. The latex files specify
the 'a4paper' format. To change this, edit the perl script.
BTW, the inserts are much smaller than the paper, so is the paper size really
a problem ?

5 - The lines go out of the insert !

There is currently a problem with long title or long lines, which wrap and
shift the lines below. The only solution is to edit the generated LaTeX file to
remove some lines or to reduce the line too long. I'll ask LaTeX experts about
how to know that a line wrapped.

6 - The "Get from CD" button doesn't work

It relies on your cdrom drive being /dev/cdrom.
If it's not the case, edit either GetCDTitle (to change the default) or
NewCDLayout.pl (to pass the dev name as argument).
