<H2>Presentation</H2>
<P>Transcriber is a tool for assisting the creation of speech corpora.
It allows to manually segment, label and transcribe speech signals, for
later use in automatic speech processing. It is more specifically geared
towards the transcription of long duration broadcast news recordings, with
labeling of speech turns and topic changes. It is as simple as possible,
and its interface is mostly user configurable.</P>
<P>Transcriber is developed with the scripting language <A HREF="http://www.scriptics.com/" TARGET="_top">Tcl/Tk</A>
and C extensions. It relies on <A HREF="http://www.speech.kth.se/snack/" TARGET="_top">Snack
sound extension</A>, which allows support for most common audio formats,
and <A HREF="http://www.multimania.com/fbonnet/Tcl/tcLex/index.en.htm" TARGET="_top">tcLex
lexer generator</A>. It has been tested on various Unix systems (Linux,
Sun Solaris, Silicon Graphics) and Windows NT. Transcriber is distributed
as free software under <A HREF="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html" TARGET="_top">GNU
General Public License.</A> </P>
