<h1>Frames</h1>
<p>Frames allow an author to display multiple documents in a single window that is divided into rectangular subspaces called frames. Visual browsers allow these frames to be scrolled independently of each other, and links can be loaded in a frame without changing the content of other frames.</p>
<p>The HTML4.0 frames model has <a href="http://www.htmlhelp.com/design/frames/whatswrong.html" title="What's wrong with frames?">significant flaws</a> that make frames hated by many users. Frames should only be used with great care; see the <cite><a href="http://www.htmlhelp.com/design/frames/">Guide to frames usage</a></cite> for some guidelines on suitable use of frames.</p>
<p>In a <a href="../html/doctype.html#frameset">Frameset</a> document, the outermost <strong class=html><a href="frameset.html">FRAMESET</a></strong> element takes the place of <strong class=html><a href="../html/body.html">BODY</a></strong> and immediately follows the <strong class=html><a href="../head/head.html">HEAD</a></strong>. Contained within the <strong class=html>FRAMESET</strong> element are <strong class=html><a href="frame.html">FRAME</a></strong> elements that define each frame, other <strong class=html>FRAMESET</strong> elements for complex layouts, and a <strong class=html><a href="noframes.html">NOFRAMES</a></strong> element to provide alternate content for browsers with frames disabled or not supported.</p>
