wmtune - the premier dockable radio tuner.
Support for Zoltrix Radio Card added by Carl van Schaik carl@leg.uct.ac.za
Integration of RadioTrack, Zoltrix, Kernel versions by Carl van Schaik
Edit Makefile to choose card to be compiled.
wmtune v1.0, by soren@leiden.org, design & art by warp@xs4all.nl
Description:
WMTune is a WindowMaker dock.app that controls an AIMS Lab Radio-Track FM
radio tuner card. I purchased this card for about 20$ at the local BestBuy.
Supposedly it's available at CircutCity, CompUSA, Fry's, and numerous other
places I'm sure. However you can easily order it online from the manufacturer
from the url below:
http://www.aimslab.com/Products/RadioTrack/f_Radiotrack%20home%20page.htm
WMTune resides under the GPL, as everything should be. Newer versions as
well as news pertaining to WMTune will be available from:
http://soren.org/linux/wmtune (homepage) & http://windowmaker.mezaway.org
I personally have it running on every X terminal in the house as to allow
easy access to the house-wide stereo. The radio in the amp broke, which
prompted the purchase of this card.
Installation:
make (gnu make required)
su -c make install (this copes wmtune to /usr/X11R6/bin setuid root)
(as well as sample.wmtunerc to /etc)
I'm glad you posess common sense and know how to use dock apps with
WindowMaker. However, you'll probably want/need to look at /etc/wmtunerc.
(which may reside in ~/.wmtunerc as well)
Features and useful hints: <--- highly recommended
Edit wmtunerc with your favorite editor to set your correct IO address
for your card and presets.
The + and - buttons are for FINE tuning.
The 2 buttons to the right of the FINE tuning buttons are the SCAN buttons.
The 2 SCAN buttons also double as VOLUME UP/DOWN when using the RIGHT mouse
button.
In the bottom left there is a small two digit box in which the currently
selected preset # will be shown. The < and > arrow buttons to the left of
the box allow to switch between presets easily and quickly.
To the right of the above described things there is yet another button with
a miniature ON/OFF logo. This is used to turn your radio card on/off.
The button with the inscribed letter "A" allows you to control the internal
alarm clock/delay timer. Upon pressing the "A" button you will be allowed to
set the timer/delay to a time you wish the radio to turn on / off (depending
on the current state of the radio) automatically.
After pressing the "A" button the first time you may set the now displayed
clock type panel to the desired setting using the SCAN buttons to set your
timer in the 24hour format. (be aware in this state other buttons cease to
work) You must press the A button again at which point the indicator light
will turn on and the alarm will be set. Lastly, pressing the "A" button once
more, will disengance the timer.
Furthermore, there are various commandline options available which are best
explained simply by:
-begin-paste--------------------------------------------------------------
<soren@phrantic>:~$ wmtune -h
wmtune v1.0, by soren@leiden.org, design & art by warp@xs4all.nl
http://soren.org/linux/wmtune & http://windowmaker.mezaway.org
usage:
-n turn radio on initially on startup
-t <##:##> set timer on startup, military time
-p <##> set startup preset # listed in wmtunerc file
-d <display> selects target display
-h display this screen
examples:
turn on radio on startup using preset 5
wmtune -n -p 5
turn radio on at 2:35pm using preset 2
wmtune -p 2 -t 14:35
turn on radio on startup and turn radio off at midnight
wmtune -n -t 00:00
<soren@phrantic>:~$
-end-paste----------------------------------------------------------------
Miscellaneous Q & A:
Q: I don't have an AIMS Lab but my card works w/the kernel radio support, why
didn't you implement support for this?!?!
A: Well, I -DO- have an AIMS Lab card. And, I don't have a spare machine
running a development kernel to dick around w/, so I don't really care.
Aside from that though, I needed specific optimization for things to work
the way I want and the kernel support couldn't provide it anyways.
Anyways, for the time being either go w/o wmtune on your desktop or grab the
compatible card.
