xisp for DEBIAN
----------------------
X-ISP is a nice interface to pppd for dial-up connections to your
favourite ISP(s).
REQUIREMENTS
In order to make use of the xisp package, you need to have ppp-2.2.0f
or newer properly installed on your system. You also need to configure
your modem for verbose result codes, as well as for reporting your
true connection speed rather than the computer-modem connection speed.
ISP DEPENDENT SCRIPTS
For isp dependent actions, you can add things to
/etc/ppp/ip-{up,down}/xisp. Change the if-then part as needed.
NOAUTH WORKAROUND
If your isp hangs up and you get a message "peer refused to authenticate",
then comment the "auth" option in /etc/ppp/options.
This is not the recommended way to solve this problem, and a new version
of xisp will deal with this, but in the meantime, this fix will help.
NEWSUER and DEBUGGING
When you run xisp from the comamnd line, it will show pup-up windows with
tips on usage. Use the -nohints optin to suppress these (the xisp menu
entry does this).
If you want to debug why you can't connect to your ISP, run xisp with
the -debug option, which will log into /var/log/xisp.
