.TH zeroconf 8 "17 November 2005"
.SH NAME
zeroconf \- IPv4 link-local address allocator
.SH SYNOPSIS
.B zeroconf [-v] [-n] [-f] [-i interface]
.SH DESCRIPTION
.B zeroconf
is an implementation of IPv4 link-local addresses (RFC3927) which can be
used for ad-hoc networks. Addresses are allocated from the 169.254.0.0/16
range semi-randomly. That means making it possible to take two laptop
computers, and connect them with a crossover Ethernet cable, and have them
communicate usefully using IP, without needing any additional setup.
.SH OPTIONS
.TP 4
.BR "\-v" " or " "\-\-verbose"
Display diagnostic and debugging output.
.TP 4
.BR "\-n" " or " "\-\-no-fork"
Do not fork and become a daemon. Usually used with the verbose option.
.TP 4
.BR "\-f" " or " "\-\-force"
Generally running zeroconf over the loopback, slaved, point-to-point
interfaces or one not capable of ARP one is pointless. Zeroconf checks
for this and does not run. You can override this check with this
option -- this may be useful for tunneled interfaces which are used in
some kind of bridging setup.
.TP 4
.BR "\-i" " or " "\-\-interface" " <interface> "
Network interface to use. The interface is checked for compatibility
as noted above.
